Guy Fieri was in town a couple of weeks ago to film Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. I know many people don't like what the Food Network has become and point to this show as Exhibit A with Sandra Lee being Exhibit B but the Foodette and I really enjoy this show and were excited to hear they would be filming in and around town. Here's the list of stops:
Lankford Grocery
Niko Niko's
T-Bone Tom's
Red Lion Pub
Cafe Pita
Bob's Taco Station
Kenny & Ziggy's
Kenny & Ziggy's is what it is - a NY style deli with $10 sandwiches and 10'' pieces of cake. Bob's makes some darn good fajitas and serves great breakfast too - it's worth the trip to Rosenberg. Niko Niko's may not be the fanciest Greek food in town but it definitely fits the mold for this show and it has what the other well-known Mediterranean restaurants in town don't - some history and character. I don't know much about the food at the rest but I'm sure I'll end up trying it now.
This inspired me, along with every other food blogger in town, to create my own list which included a little overlap; kind of like my gut when I sit down.
Niko Niko's - Charming - it still has the slanted floor even after the remodel! The food is tasty and not complicated.
Goode Co. BBQ - Austin baked beans, brisket, and pecan pie - they did realize they were filming the show in Texas, right?
Bubba's Texas Burger Shack - It's under a tollway and serves amazing burgers and jalapeno potato salad. Sounds like a dive to me.
Little Big's - I know it's fairly new but it was started by a pretty good Chef which I think makes it intriguing. The sliders and fries are great and it has charisma. I don't even know what that means. I just really like the food and outdoor seating area - plus they're open late! Hyah!
Italian Maid Cafe - Old school Italian in an old building in an old town run by an old family. I don't know if the family is old but this place is comfortable, affordable and stomach-satisfying.
There are dozens more but I think that's a good start.
